IP Networking

Whether you operate a convention IP network or trunked wide area IP Network, Gen2 brings the power of IP to link sites for wide area roaming and calling using existing IT assets including private microwave, spread-spectrum links or carrier services using standard 10/100 base-T Ethernet switches and routers. Server Based Network Design for Scalability

Gen2 leverages the power of IP in a Linux server-based architecture that enables control of network, systems, sites and peripheral equipment, including the ability to modify a set up and conduct maintenance/monitoring activities remotely. Link multiple digital trunked sites (up to 1,000) for wide area roaming and calling across a campus, city, county or region. Gen2 is ideal for an IP-based communications environment at a manufacturing plant, utility or other industrial setting, using existing IT assets, private microwave, spread-spectrum links or carrier services.

System Controller for Network Asset Management

The system controller is at the heart of the server-based network design of NEXEDGE Gen2.  Conveniently manage network assets such as routers, switches and Windows and UNIX servers using SNMP monitoring. Compatible with commercially available network monitoring applications, Gen2 facilitates resource, performance and traffic monitoring.

Increased GPS Capacity

GPS capacity has been increased with Gen2. A new CAI protocol shortens the time it takes to transmit GPS data and unit GPS coordinates are automatically updated with each polling for faster awareness of asset and personnel location.

Direct Frequency Assignment (DFA) Maximizes Efficiency

Gen2 features DFA, simplifying the procedure to ensure that as soon as new frequencies are added to the network, all equipment and subscriber units connected to the network are automatically notified.  Network managers and SMR operators no longer need to call in radios, which means zero downtime.

System Operators Gain More Management Tools

The NEXEDGE System Bridge allows up to 24 individual networks to be connected. Combined with the increase in connectivity of up to 1,000 sites, system operators can now offer seamless auto-roaming to their users.  Gen2 system can be set up for automatic ESN collection and configured to “stun” or “kill” unauthorized IDs, for easy identification of lost, compromised or stolen radios.

Fleet Priority Channel

For demanding mission/operation-critical users, it is essential to have a system that offers top-notch security 24/7.  Assign a secured priority channel to a specific traffic channel – for a group, console or other peripheral.  Group members will have priority at all times, ideal for public safety.  Gen2 enables private system applications, facilitating the development of new solutions such as using a Secured Priority channel for SMR network channel leasing to users.

SYSTEM DETAILS

System Controller Server

Browser based configuration means more flexibility and provides up to 1,000 users can be provided with password and access control. Unified firmware version control automatically updates to the latest firmware and improved log management guarantees consistency.

Optional Site Controller Server

Removing the site controller functions from the repeater greatly reduces the stress on the site and allows for more features to be added to the system. Required for sites with 10 repeaters or more and 30 repeaters per site controller server, it allows for management of repeater programming, firmware updates and communications in parallel with the system controller server.

System Bridge

This option is required for multi-system configurations and can connect up to 24 system, with one system bridge per multi-system. This is what allows for wide area coverage that duplicates a local network, supporting all call and data types and allowing for seamless auto-roaming.

With Gen2, you will expand your coverage, allow you to offer services to new and different types of users and also add features that save you time and encourage your customers to increase their air time. With the NEXEDGE System Bridge, you can expand from 48 to 1,000 sites/24 networks for a nearly 250% increase in connectivity. Go state-wide or regional and deploy new features like schedulable stun/kill to prevent unauthorized access and/or theft of radios. Also, with Direct Frequency Assignment (DFA) you can easily update your system to add subscriber units to expand with your customers’ requirements.

Transportation & Logistics

You need a system that can keep up with the 24/7 nature of your business. Gen2 has a Fleet Priority Channel feature that allows you to assign a secured priority channel to a specific traffic channel for a group, console or other peripheral. This allows you to select and use a Secured Priority Channel so that your pre-determined first-access voice communications are automatically the first ones addressed.

Wide Area Coverage

GPS is the ideal tool for wide area coverage, and Gen2 boosts the accessibility of this valuable tool. The System Controller is aware at all times how many GPS-equipped subscriber units are on duty, maximizing traffic capacity for data transmission while reducing GPS data processing time.
